On, the innovative new running shoe brand, today announces its first race-specific running shoe. The Cloudracer is based on the award winning CloudTecTM system and is the fastest, lightest and most agile shoe in the successful On range, due to hit the shops in April 2012.

With its ultra-light construction and further development of the patented CloudTecTM system the Cloudracer brings the runner all the benefits of the other shoes in the On range and more. The active sole consists of 18 CloudTec™ elements which have been optimised for competitive running. The combination of light impact on landing and explosive push-off creates an extremely efficient yet natural running movement that will provide a vital edge on the race to new personal bests. The durability of the Cloudracer has been engineered to last for two to three marathons.

On anticipates what human foot evolution has not yet achieved since the invention of streets: the radically new CloudTec™ design features highly flexible 3D-elements and allows the sole to absorb both vertical and horizontal forces. It prepares the running muscles for landing and lets the runner glide smoothly into the step. For the push-off the sole changes again, providing the hardness needed to move away with explosive force. This leaves the runner with the feeling of landing on sand, but pushing off from the track.

The On CloudTec™ system makes natural running a light and fast experience that trains the body in the right way and gives the wearer a fun new running sensation. The activation of the running muscles reduces the risk of injury and shortens recovery times with no adaption time needed. The Swiss technology has earned international innovation awards and worldwide patents. Independent scientific research has proved this technology reduces the runner's average heart-rate and lactic acid build-up compared to conventional running shoes.

Prototypes have been tested by leading athletes, such as marathon runner Geoffrey Gikuni Ndungu of Kenya (best time: 2:08:33 in Dublin in 2011), Ironman professional triathlete Scott Neyedli of the UK and marathon legend Tegla Loroupe of Kenya. They have all reported new personal bests with the race shoes.

Founder and ex-professional long-course triathlete, Olivier Bernhard says: "Injury and frustration at the lack of true innovation in running shoes led me to develop the award winning new running technology. The shoe has created a whole new running sensation.  We are excited to be launching the Cloudracer and can't wait to hear of all the new Personal Bests being set by our On community."

On has three existing shoes; the hugely successful Cloudsurfer and the Cloudrunner. It also added the Cloudster to its range earlier this year, bringing an entry level shoe to the family. The new race shoe will provide added speed and agility for those seeking a fun, pain-free and injury-resistant path to PBs.
